Automotive has become a software industry that also makes vehicles. The value has moved toward the platform in the car and the data coming off it, and the operating model most manufacturers and suppliers have was built for a different product.

The work here is usually about the seam between engineering and operations: telemetry that arrives faster than anyone can act on it, a dealer and aftersales network running on systems that predate connectivity, and a supply chain that has to answer questions about parts it does not directly control.

Mobility operators have the same problem from the other end. They own the fleet and the demand signal, and the constraint is rarely the algorithm — it is whether the operational reality, the depots and the maintenance windows, is represented anywhere the algorithm can see it.
